Any person who lives in the City of DeWitt, DeWitt Charter Township, or parts of Watertown Township (within the DeWitt Public Schools district) is eligible for a Resident Library Card at no cost. For local residents, library cards expire three (3) years from the date of issuance.

What is needed:

  • Valid photo ID such as a driver's license, military ID, or passport

  • Proof of residency or property ownership such as a State ID with a current address, vehicle registration, tax receipt, or lease agreement.

Any person who works or goes to school, but does not live, within the City of DeWitt and DeWitt Charter Township is eligible for a Non-Resident Library Card at no cost. For all other individuals who reside outside of the DDL service area, a library card may be purchased for $30. Family membership is available for $40, allowing each member at the same address to receive an individual account and card. Non-resident cards are valid for one (1) year from the date of issuance.

What is needed:

  • Valid photo ID such as a driver's license, military ID, or passport with a current address.

  • For non-residents who work in-district, proof of employment such as a pay stub, employee badge, or letter from your employer.

  • Cash, check, or card to cover the cost of the membership fee.

Children may obtain a library card at any age. A child, who either lives within the library's service area or is a student at DeWitt Public Schools, is eligible for a three (3) years or one (1) year library card respectively.

What is needed:

  • A parent or legal guardian, with a valid ID showing a current address, must be present, with the minor, and take responsibility for the account by signing our Library User Agreement.

Material restrictions:

The American Library Association Bill of Rights, Article V states, "A person's right to use a library should not be denied or abridged because of origin, age, background or views." It is therefore the responsibility of the parent or legal guardian to monitor the selection of library materials by a minor child.

All students attending DeWitt Public Schools (DPS) are issued a digital library card for use during the duration of their time in the school district. Digital cards provide access to DDL's online resources such as ebooks, streaming services, homework help, research databases and more!

What is needed:

  • Students new to the school district will automatically have a digital card created by mid to late October. To access the library's online resources, students need to know their DPS Student ID# and library account PIN#.

Library cards expire every one to three years depending on the type of library account. When a card expires, a library account is deactivated and library materials are no longer able to be checked out, renewed, or placed on hold.
