Accessibility Statement

The DeWitt District Library (DDL) works to make certain that everyone can enjoy equal access to all of our information, programs, and services. DDL has adopted the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 AA standard to ensure digital accessibility. We strive to comply with WCAG 2.1 [AA] throughout our website and mobile app. If you experience a barrier to digital access, please let us know.

Building Accessibility

The DeWitt District Library building is ADA-compliant. The library strives to ensure that our materials, events, services and resources are accessible to everyone in our community. Please contact the library [internal page link] if you have any questions, concerns, about the accessibility of the library building or to request accommodations.

Our Library Collections & Accessibility Services

We have many of the same popular books you will find in the general collection in large print.

Read or listen to ebooks, audiobooks and magazines on your audio-enabled device or computer. You can access these through our digital collections. Find more information about our digital streaming services.

We maintain a collection of both fiction and non-fiction books on CD.  Books on CD are located in the main library along the far, west side wall, on either side of the reading alcove.  A smaller collection of BOCD can also be found in the youth library.

Our patron computers run on the Windows operating system. When using library computers, people with disabilities are able to customize font size, screen color, mouse controls and other accessibility features. Upon reboot, any custom settings are restored to the former default state.

The Library will provide ASL interpretation through outside contractors upon request for selected programs. We generally require two weeks’ notice before a program in order to secure an interpreter. Contact us to inquire about or request this service.

Those who are not physically able to visit the library may apply for home delivery service.

The Michigan Braille and Talking Book Library provides library services for individuals who are blind or whose physical abilities require the use of books and magazines in audio, braille or other adapted formats.

BTBL provides vital reading materials in accessible formats. Individuals are eligible if they are blind, low vision, or physically unable to hold a book and turn the page, whether temporarily or long term. BTBL services are also available to those with reading disabilities such as dyslexia.

DDL staff are a certifying authority for BTBL applications and will assist individuals in completing an application for service with BTBL.

Service Animals

Service animals are welcome at the library. If you have questions or concerns about bringing animals into the library building, please see the Americans with Disabilities Act Service Animal FAQ.
