DDL's VolunTeen opportunities are for teens at least 14 years old and willing to donate their time providing assistance with library tasks. VolunTeens are needed most during our annual Summer Reading program, which takes place the months of June, July, and August. Under the supervision of Library staff, teens assist with craft preparation, program set-up/clean-up, distribution of Summer Reading prizes and incentives, and various other duties.

Teens who participate in the Summer VolunTeen program maybe eligible to continue working as a volunteer at the library throughout the school year. For those looking to earn community service hours during the school year, consider our At-Home Teen Service Hour Program.

Information about the 2026 Summer VolunTeen program will be shared in April 2026.

In order to participate, interested teens must:

  • be at least 14 years old by June 7, 2025
  • complete the library's Volunteen Application
  • complete a work permit for ages 14-15 or ages 16-17
  • be available to volunteer at least two hours a week during the summer
  • attend a mandatory orientation on Wednesday, May 28 at 3 pm or Thursday, May 29 at 5 pm
