Our Community Mural

From a Community Event to a Community Celebration:

Join us, Wednesday, April 29th at 10 am to officially celebrate the installation of the mural created by our community during the 2025 Summer Reading Program, "Color Our World". This mural celebrates our library, the community, and what we can build and accomplish when we come together.
The location of our community mural is 1640 DeWitt RD, DeWitt, MI 48820

During the summer of 2025, something special took shape at the Library—one brushstroke at a time.

As part of our Summer Reading Program, themed Color Our World, the Library partnered with artists, families, and community members of all ages to create a vibrant community mural that now lives on Library-owned property for everyone to enjoy.

From Idea to Inspiration

The mural project began during the planning stages of Summer Reading, thanks to the vision and dedication of our Youth Services Librarian, Jozefa Rogoski, who retired at the end of the summer. Jozefa believed deeply in the power of creative collaboration and worked to turn that belief into a tangible, shared experience for our community.

Through her efforts, Jozefa applied for and was awarded a grant from the Michigan Arts and Culture Council, making the mural project possible. She then recruited local artist Kelly Boyle to help design a mural inspired by the Library’s mission to engage all members of our community with resources that empower lifelong learning and provide enrichment opportunities.

A Permanent Piece of Our Story

In November, the completed mural was installed on property owned by the Library, transforming the space into a bold, colorful reflection of who we are and what we value. The finished piece celebrates curiosity, creativity, learning, and connection—core themes of both the Summer Reading Program and the DeWitt District Library.

More than just a work of art, the mural stands as a reminder of what can happen when a community comes together to create something meaningful.

We invite you to visit the mural, take a moment to explore its details, and reflect on the many hands and hearts that brought it to life.
