South Riley Township Cemetery

Riley Twp., Clinton Co., MI

Readings by Wayne Summers (July 2001)

The South Riley Cemetery was established about 1845 on land given by William Yerkes and deeded to four trustees.  The first burial was that of a man named Ingalls.  His burial location is unknown.  All records prior to 1910 were destroyed in a fire.  Metal lot markers were removed many years ago.  There are no burial or ownership records for the cemetery.  The cemetery contains many lots that are either unmarked or unused.

The cemetery is located on the east side of Lowell Road, about a half mile north of Cutler Road.  This is an inactive cemetery renovated in the summer of 2001.   Lots are my creation based on the numbering system used at the Boughton Cemetery (see map).  Lots are assumed to contain 5 plots and are numbered north to south.
